Can I exhibit at the Gallery?

Shoalhaven Regional Gallery is a curated exhibition space which delivers a high-quality program of contemporary art. We deliver art experiences that are engaging, challenging, and relevant to the local context. We exhibit contemporary art from artists across the Shoalhaven, Australia, and the world, to engage, challenge and inspire our audiences.

We are committed to nurturing and supporting all artists within the Shoalhaven. We have partnerships with Shoalhaven Arts Society and Creative Moments, who host exhibitions within our gallery on an annual basis. Both these organisations welcome new members and are a good place to connect with other artists in the Shoalhaven. We curate an annual exhibition, New Horizons, of artworks from graduating high school students within the Shoalhaven area and encourage young people to engage with our programs and exhibitions.

Each year we accept Expressions of Interest (EOI) for artists and curators interested in being part of our program. We are looking for shows that have a clear rationale and/or highlight a resolved body of work. Our EOI is highly competitive and judged by an expert team of curators. We encourage you to drop by the gallery to and look at our spaces, chat with our team, to help plan your application.

What happens to works in your collection?

Shoalhaven Regional Gallery has a sizeable collection of art that has been purchased, donated or bequeathed to us which is regularly curated into exhibitions within our gallery. We love to exhibit works from our collection and they form an important part of many of our exhibitions.

We are committed to taking care of these works and making sure they remain a resource for the community. We support the arts by loaning works from our collection to other institutions and contributing to displays within Council buildings. Our collection is a resource for research into art and helps retain knowledge about the arts within our community.

We accept donations and bequests through negotiation with our team.

How do you support local artists?

Shoalhaven Regional Gallery is committed to supporting local artists throughout all aspects of our program. We seek to nurture a deep understanding and appreciation of contemporary art and invite local artists to engage with the diversity of our exhibition program. We have two partnerships with organisations of local artists who curate regular exhibitions at our gallery, and we stock the work of over 70 local artists in our shop. We hold a variety of classes, workshops and events that local artists can participate in, and these classes are often taken by local artists who are experts in their field. We run an after-school program to help inspire a new generation of artists.

We are proud of the vibrant First Nations communities within Nowra, and the Shoalhaven, and welcome First Nations artists to be part of our program. We maintain a Koori Artist database and invite First Nations artists to join and find out about upcoming opportunities. We invite First Nations artists to submit EOIs for our exhibition programs and to visit our gallery and talk with our staff about how to get involved.
